Hi! My name is Lala Bower. Divergentgraphics.com is a showcase of my work as a design professional and features several design articles and resources that may be helpful to businesses. I have a soft spot for start ups and small businesses since I am an independent graphic designer but I also work with other artists on several projects.
My services include prepress layout and design, advanced photo-editing and color correction, fine art, digital painting and vector illustration front-end web design using html, css and flash.
Wikipedia defines "divergent thinking" as
"a thought process or method, which is usually applied with the goal to generate ideas". I call my website "Divergent Graphics" to pay tribute to the art and value of Design as a process rather than just a tangible marketing piece.
Design serving a higher functional value
Design should go beyond aesthetics and serve businesses in a way that solves a communication problem or meets a business objective. I have had the opportunity to work as a market researcher years ago and saw the importance of knowing a market diverse needs. For me an assessment of your business' communication needs is an integral part of design. Each design starts with a question and answer wherein we can work towards a profile of your target audience. I conduct these interviews through email or through a phone or in person interview, whichever is most convenient for the client. Design shouldn't just be about painting a pretty picture, it should be a workable design solution.
Diverse Design
Each design need and communication objective is different.
Your design should be as unique as your business. Rest assured that the designs created here are not the product of bargain basement template ideas. Go to studies for a quick view on how each design was thought out.
Design is a process
Design is not only a tangible marketing piece, it is a process. I have seen how young designers try to win a project through rock-bottom priced concepts that are delivered in 24 hours.
Furthermore, some hold to the belief that as long one owns a PC, software program, some clip-art and fonts, then anyone can create a design. Lots of money is wasted on poor design that will return nothing.
A design solution should be a result of quality time spent on research, brainstorming, sketching and testing ideas.
